Clara Bow’s Bungalow

I’ve been sitting on this post for a while.  In early December I noticed the For Sale sign in the yard of 7576 Hollywood Blvd. and my heart sank a little.  That’s never a good sign for a remaining but obscure bit of Hollywood history like this little bungalow that housed silent superstar Clara Bow, her father, and her boyfriend the up-and-coming cinematographer Arthur (Artie) Jacobson who had followed her from New York.

I discovered this existing link to Clara Bow after reading David Stenn’s biography of Clara, Runnin’ Wild.  Over the years I’ve often walked or driven by it when in the area to feel a bit of kinship with her.  Clara, who never had an easy road in life despite winning Motion Picture Magazine’s Fame and Fortune contest with a $1 photo from a Coney Island photographer’s studio, arrived in Hollywood in 1923.  She later rented the home after firing her first manager who had accompanied her to Hollywood.
